Before The Bulb Africa

The Bulb Africa is my first corporate job experience. Before this, I was a student and I had just started my service. I was posted to The Bulb Africa by NYSC. I knew that The Bulb is a tech institute and I had an interest in tech, so I was elated to join and be a part of the organization. Although I initially didn’t know if they would accept me, I prayed, did my interview and I was accepted, I was very excited.

The Journey So Far

My first day at The Bulb was HECTIC as there was a lot of onboarding. I met my team [media and marketing team] who were very welcoming and supportive. I can say I have the best team at The Bulb. My team lead, Daniel Nnechi, as busy as he is, still finds the time to hold my hand and walk me through the things I need to learn. In the past few months of my internship, I have learnt a lot, especially on Email Marketing. My writing and communication skills have also improved tremendously over the past weeks.

I have been given tasks to do like research on the marketing strategies that we apply at The Bulb Africa, speak to leads and convert them through various forms of digital marketing. To successfully carry out the tasks, fully understanding the business, the services, and the product offerings of the company was a key component. Understanding these allowed me to get the task done and research effectively. For instance, one of The Bulb’s missions is to nurture, equip and build Africa’s tech talents and one of the ways we do this is through fellowship at The Bulb, offering subsidized payment plans and options to make this accessible for all who pick an interest. I also learned how to pick up conversations, market to people, the red flags to look out for when doing so, and the importance of negotiations for unfavourable contract terms, I got to review T&Cs amongst other things.

Something challenging that I initially faced at the Bulb was video marketing. We make a lot of videos on the Marketing team, and I am very camera-shy. However, I can say I have adjusted and I’m getting used to the system.

So far, I have worked very closely with Ada Obioma, who is a Customer Success Associate, and she is my favourite person at The Bulb. She is patient and always happy to help when I need it. With Ada’s help, I have generated and converted leads for The Bulb Africa.

I also love the Hybrid work system, I think it fosters productivity and growth. The team bonding sessions as well, I like how it makes everyone feel close and accessible to each other.

The Experience

This opportunity not only shaped my career path, but also my personal development. I see this as a great stepping stone to becoming a Product Marketer in the future. Being in the environment has shaped my mindset. Listening to the CEO, Wande Adams speak about having a growth mindset and the need for consistency allowed me to re-evaluate my career and life choices, make informed decisions, and overcome imposter syndrome. Having conversations with Daniel, my team lead makes you think of the long-term or end goal before embarking on a career path, Greatness and Ada, whose positive attitude towards work allows me not only to try various strategies toward getting results but not to have a quitting mindset. They inspired, encouraged, and allowed me to learn and grow by accommodating me. Every suggestion, opinion, and question is addressed with additional knowledge and feedback, hence, an opportunity to track my growth.

I want to thank the entire Bulb family for this opportunity, the learning, and the chance to be part of this. Thank youuuu.
